What is Contract Management?

Contract management is a process used by commercial and government organizations to manage contract creation, execution and analysis. During the development of a contract, both buyers and sellers must work together to manage customer and supplier expectations and relationships, control risk/cost and contribute to organizational profitability and success. Contract management can help to address time-consuming elements of business and employs effective automated contract management systems.

Work is typically divided into process stages of creation, collaboration, signing, tracking and renewal. Contract management software is also a common solution for managing these different stages. By automating processes and organizing contract paperwork, organizations are able to reduce labor costs and ensure resources are effectively allocated.

Understanding the various stages of contract management and the ability to facilitate processes amongst stakeholders can be vital for reducing costs and improving company performance from requisitioning to contract closeout.
